Shore Shakespeare Company Announces Cast for 2023 Tour

The Shore Shakespeare Company is pleased to announce the cast for our September 2023 tour of Much Ado About Nothing.  This is the 10th year of the company that was founded in 2013. Our mission is to bring the works of William Shakespeare to the Eastern Shore and present free, outdoor performances for the public.

Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare’s most popular, humorous, and heartwarming comedies.  The action centers around two romantic couples.  Wedding bells are ringing for young Hero and Claudio until a villainous deception brings tragedy to test the depth of their love.  Meanwhile, Beatrice and Benedick, two of the wittiest characters ever to grace the stage, engage in a shrewd battle of bitter wits and one-upmanship to disguise how they really feel about one another - especially from themselves.  Language is a weapon, appearances lie, and love is like a game of chess in this delightful show for all ages.  The show will be set in the late 1930’s with the big band sounds of Fred Astiare,  Ella Fitzgerlad and others providing music.

Avra Sullivan, Executive Director and Co-founder of Shore Shakespeare Company, directs a cast of 18 local actors, depicting 20+ characters. In the roles of Benedick and Beatrice are  Christine Kinlock and Howard Mesick. Hero and Claudio, the younger, and perhaps more naive couple, are portrayed by Kristen Gaunt and Troy Strootman

Gil Rabauch portrays the Prince of Messina, Don Pedro, whose sinister brother Don John, played by Sullivan, creates a dark twist in the play along with his henchmen, Borachio, played by Corey Palmer and Conrade, played by Jane Terebey. The action takes place at the house of Leonato, Hero's father, played by Oric Geist and Antonio his brother, played by Nita Wieczoreck. Hero’s attendees, Ursula and Margaret, are played by Kelly WIlliams and Suzanne Theucks. And it would not be a Shakespeare comedy without the almost farcical characters who, despite malapropisms and inadequacies, help to restore things as they should be. Leading this crew in the role of Constable Dogberry is Greg Minahan with his sidekick Verges played by John Terebey  Samantha Davis plays the role of Sexton. The cast is supported by additional watchmen, messengers, attendees, and soldiers, including Tom Dorman, Rebekkah Napier and  Anne Keeney.
