While many of our performances are free, the productions are not!

Help us pay down our recently purchased storage shed by donating to our #ShedFundCampaign

MISTRESS OVERDONE: And what shall become of our props and costumes?

POMPEY: They shall stand for now: they had gone to seed,
But that a wise burgher put in for them

The above quote is paraphrased from our 2022 summer tour of "Measure for Measure" ...our first (and very successful) full production tour since 2019! For our present purpose, the quote refers to the storage space we lost three years ago along with our friend and co-founder Chris Rogers. Along with everything else Chris did for us, his home in Centreville was our di facto storage facility for sets, props, costumes, and tech equipment. While Chris' sons have been most gracious and helpful these few years, we have necessarily been finding alternate solutions to our storage needs.

Hence, this past summer the SSC Board approved investing about half our savings in the purchase, installation, and outfitting of the 12'x16' Dutch Barn pictured below.

While surely a sound investment, our new shed has fairly halved our existing savings.  To give some perspective: the budget for an SSC production averages $3000. The total cost of the shed, foundation, and shelving was $7048.00 ...more than the cost of TWO summer tours!  Replacing these funds as soon as possible will secure our future productions and keep us prepared for unexpected costs and opportunities. One company member has already contributed $750.00!

Our mission is to bring Shakespeare to the Eastern Shore just as Will himself might have done, with simple production values, putting our effort and creativity into the words, the acting, and the stories. We don't need much, but we do need to maintain the resources we have, and to be prepared for the unexpected.

As for the "wise burghers" to whom Pompey refers in "Measure for Measure", who support Mistress Overdone in her time of need: We at SSC are similarly in need of a few “generous and respectful citizens” to help us absorb this recent investment in our future.

So please be a “wise citizen”. Help SSC continue to bring quality productions to The Eastern Shore, outside, and free of charge.  We hope always to remain grounded in the humble beginnings of a backstage dream ten years ago, and to the belief that if you can dream it, you can do it.  Ten years later, our dream is strong and vibrant because of our supporters.  Please consider donating to our Shed Fund today!
