Shakespeare

in the Schools

For many of us, our earliest exposure to the Bard occurs in school, usually as an academic study.  For this reason, our mission at SSC includes bringing live Shakespeare into the local schools at all levels, where we can get it "off the page" and "onto the stage".  No one is ever too young or too old to bring the Bard to life and physically experience his work!

Shakespeare never intended his works to be read and studied solely from an academic viewpoint.  He was an actor and producer first and his plays were written to be performed and experienced.  Our educational programs are built on this premise.  While demonstrating plenty of finished scene work, we like to get students up and moving, using their brains, bodies, lungs, mouths, and imaginations combined.

SSC can work with teachers to develop single or multi-session programs to fit their needs, such as:

...a performance based workshop in which our actors perform scenes for your students, followed by discussion and Q&A time.

...multiple workshops over the course of a semester, where we explore a variety of disciplines and techniques including speaking Shakespeare, textual analysis, learning lines, character development, and fight/comedic choreography.

...acting coaching, directorial guidance, or textual analysis for a play your students may already be involved with, either onstage or in class.

Bringing Shakespeare to life for students and teachers is the goal of any educational program we provide.

to see how we may be able to benefit your school program!
